Mrs. MacAulay's students visited the library to work on a research project and essay writing assignment.
Students were given a list of landforms in Central and South Asia, and after learning a little bit about many of them, they chose one for their project. Students had to use two websites for their research, and took notes in their own words on notecards. The notecards would become the evidence for their essays.
The 2-paragraph essay focused on characteristics and human-environmental interaction, more specifically how humans adapted, modified and depended upon the landforms. Another requirement of the project is to create a citation page for online resources.
Once the 7th graders finished taking notes, they organized their information on a PEEL graphic organizer (Point, Evidence, Explain and Link). They organized their facts under the two paragraph topics, Characteristics and Human-Environmental Interaction. Students included 6 facts under each topic, and the next step is to write a topic sentence for each paragraph and link the evidence to each topic sentence, and write a closing sentence. The final step is to write the informal essay on Google Doc.M
