School Resource Officers (SROs)

For more than twenty years, the Amesbury Public Schools have had SRO’s.  In Massachusetts, a School Resource Officer (SRO) is a police officer who works in public schools to help keep everyone safe and build strong relationships with students and staff. SROs are there to support a safe learning environment, not to handle regular school discipline. They work with school leaders on safety plans, help during emergencies, and sometimes teach classes on things like bullying, drug prevention, or how the law works. They’re also there as mentors—someone students can talk to if they’re having a tough time. The goal is to make schools feel safe, welcoming, and connected to the community.

 

Our two SROs, Officer Troy Burrell and Officer Sean Ward, have certainly worked to build relationships and help to support a safe learning environment.  Please read below to learn a little more about each of them. 

Officer Ward has worked for the Amesbury Police Department since 2017 and is in his third year of being an SRO for the district.  Officer Ward graduated from Amesbury High School in 2011 and enjoys working with some of his former teachers and classmates!

Officer Troy Burrell has been with the Amesbury Police Department for 11 years and SRO for 7. Officer Burrell grew up in Amesbury and  is a graduate of the class of 2000. He is married and has two children.  In his free time he enjoys coaching football for AHS, playing hockey,  going to the gym and watching both his kids play sports.
