Welcome to Health!!!  

All  6th, 7th and 8th graders all take Health as part of the EAST program.  The overall theme of Health class is the based on the philosophy of Wellness.  Wellness is the overall balance of physical health, mental/emotional  health and social health. Wellness is about learning to recognize each area of health is related to the other.  Taking care of the body supports feeling good about yourself which in turn can help to build positive relationships. Each grade studies a variety of topics that impact one's wellness.  Students are provided strategies and information to help promote a healthy lifestyle that includes making healthy choices for one's mind and body. Making smart healthy choices and practicing positive healthy behaviors will contribute to improving one's wellness over a lifetime. Infused throughout the Health curriculum are the five Social and Emotional Learning Core Competencies. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process of developing students knowledge , skills, attitudes, and behaviors that are needed to make successful choices.  The five SEL competencies include: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills and Responsible Decision Making. These competencies are woven into classroom activities, discussion and projects as students begin take on the responsibility of their overall wellness.

 

Curriculum:

 6th grade:  Wellness and Self-esteem, Stress, Violence Prevention, Conflict Resolution, Human Growth and Development, Bullying Prevention

7th grade: Tobacco, Alcohol and Drug Prevention Education, Decision Making

8th grade: Healthy Relationships, Male and Female Reproductive System, Sexually Transmitted  Disease, Abstinence, Preventing Teen Dating Violence
