Title 1 Grant Overview

What is Title I?

Title I is a federal program authorized through the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. It provides financial assistance to schools based on each school’s percentage of poverty. Funds are used to provide supplemental resources to ensure all children meet academic standards. Title I funds may be used for additional staffing, expanding time for learning through summer supports,  professional development activities, as well as supplemental purchases of support materials and equipment.

How Do Schools Receive Title I Funds?

The federal government provides funding to each state. Districts in Massachusetts apply to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for Title I funds. The number of low-income students attending each school is the determining factor for how much money each school will receive.

Title I Policies

A regulation of accepting Title I funding is that each year the district makes the following policies available to parents.  Each September, the Title I Director attends the Open Houses at Title I Schools and conducts the Annual Title I Meeting, providing an overview of the Title I Program and distributing district policies.

The Title I Parent Involvement Policy also includes the Parents' Right-to-Know details. This information is made available annually to families as well as publicly available on our district website.
