Principal Elizabeth McAndrews Becomes Acting Superintendent for Amesbury Public Schools
Read the official statement here.
Amesbury parents, students, families, teachers and community members,
This year has tested our community in ways that we hadn’t previously imagined and has brought discussions about our collective philosophy and vision to the forefront. Tonight, the School Committee and the Superintendent have amiably and professionally agreed to end their employment relationship. Please see the below statement on this decision. We wish Mr. Fulgoni all the best in his future endeavors.
Starting tomorrow, Amesbury High School Principal Elizabeth McAndrews will become Acting Superintendent. The School Committee will meet again to discuss the duration of her service, as well as our next steps to find a new Superintendent. No matter what, the School Committee will make sure that the person in this role aligns with our values and goals for the district.
This year has been a challenge for all of us, and we did not expect to be in our current situation. Our priority is to make this as smooth as a transition as possible, while we work to improve upon the great work that’s already happening within our schools.
Here’s what you can expect in the next few months:
- Continued support from teachers and school administration for your student and family
- Progress on updating our school buildings and technology; working towards bringing all of our students back into our buildings so long as COVID-19 data continues to stay low and it remains safe to do so
- Increased communication from the district about what’s going on and what you can expect about your child’s education at Amesbury Public Schools, and more consistent communication from school to school
- Transparency around the process to bring in an Interim Superintendent, and insight into the process as we begin the search for a new Superintendent
We are confident that Principal McAndrews will provide steady support to the district for the next couple of months, and are grateful for the support of Assistant Principals Ricci and Gearin who will also step up until Principal McAndrews returns to her position. You will hear from Principal McAndrews tomorrow about how we will move forward together as a district.
Thank you to the students, parents and teachers who have reached out with feedback and concerns. We’re listening, and working towards a stronger Amesbury Public School District.
Thank you,
Mayor Kassandra Gove
