Children grow as readers when they have a 'just right' book to read. Guided reading groups are successful because kids are reading books that are not too hard or too easy for them. This is considered their instructional reading level. Our ongoing assessments throughout the year check student current reading levels.
Books being read at home should be at a child's independent reading level. These books are used to practice fluent, expressive reading. Please check with your child's teacher to find out what his/her reading level is and plan visits to the library accordingly. Also check out the file titled "series books" on the main reading page to find books that are leveled for end first grade to fourth grade readers.

by Mary Pope Osborne Year Published:These books are great for students reading on a level 28. The adventures of Jack and Annie may span throughout time and to many exciting places. Although fictional, many of the books have a nonfiction companion which allow readers to learn more about the places that Jack and Annie visit. This is one of my favorite series and a great way to hook kids into reading. Note: This book is available in our Library.Booklist
