Welcome
The Roland H. Woodwell Library Media Center welcomes students and staff while promoting reading, and providing assistance in accessing, evaluating, and using effective educational resources.
The AHS Library staff are here to answer your questions and to help with in-person or remote access to our resources.Summer Reading 2022
The theme for Amesbury High School's required summer reading is "Seeing the World Through a Different Lens." The goal is for our students to use literature as a lens; as a way to experience a life that is different from their own.
Students will choose their own book. They may examine family structures different from their own, maybe religions different from theirs or different home environments. Perhaps they will choose a book that shows characters with different ideas about gender and sexual orientation, that are from different races or of a different ethnicity. Perhaps they will choose a book with characters who have physical or mental health challenges.Maybe they will choose a book where the character comes from a different socio-economic background. The ideas are endless.
You will demonstrate your understanding of " walking in another person's shoes," in two required assessments. The first is a 4- question response assignment to be turned into your Google Classroom for Summer Reading on Friday, September 9. The second is a circle art assignment representing the lens you view your book through. You may choose the medium you use in the response. This is due on Friday, September 16, during the all-school book discussions. The instructions, the circle template you will use, the questions and examples of each are located in your Summer Reading Google Classroom (see the links to classrooms for each grade on the instructions.)
Summer reading is required at Amesbury High School. This grade will be applied to your English grade.
